This is the official website of the documentary film, 'Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars'. The film tells the remarkable and uplifting story of a group of six Sierra Leonean musicians who came together to form a band while living as refugees in the Republic of Guinea. A brutal civil war (1991-2002) forced them from their homes in Sierra Leone. Many of their family and friends were murdered in the violence, leaving them with physical and emotional scars that may never heal. Despite the unimaginable horrors of civil war, they were saved through their music. Through music they find a place of refuge, a sense of purpose and a source of power. The film follows the band over the course of three years as they make the difficult decision to return to their war-torn country and realize their dream of recording an album of their original music.

On May 10, 2008, an estimated 500 million people across the world will be able to watch 24 short films, live music and video speeches by the world’s best speakers. May 10 is Pangea Day, and everyone is invited to the four-hour treat of films. Locations in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked for the live programme. The entire programme will be broadcast – in seven languages.
The powerful films, music and speeches can also be viewed via traditional broadcasts, through free-to-air feeds, and by utilising both web-based and mobile phone platforms… click here to learn more.

We are very happy to announce that the SLRAS Film Online Store is now open for business! You can order the SLRAS DVD right now if you so desire Or maybe a vintage The Refugee All Stars t-shirt from the earliest days of the film’s life (before the name change) tempts your fancy. It’s just the start of what we will be offering at the SLRAS Store, but it’s a great start!
In the coming weeks and months we will be bringing new designs and launching new fundraising campaigns from the store - so be sure to visit again.
AND - We also wanted to send out a massive Thank You! to all of the people who sent us such overwhelmingly positive feedback after the National Broadcast on PBS/POV last month. We received notes and comments from people in all corners of the US and nothing could mean more to us than to realize how far the story of the All Stars has spread. We can only hope that this sort of positive awareness of refugee issues, of Sierra Leone and of the continent of Africa as a whole can become a part of a larger consciousness that will lead to action.
Thank you!
